A touching and melodic ballad, "Film Out" is the main soundtrack of the Japanese film "Signal: Long-Term Unsolved Case Investigation Team" (劇場版シグナルル長期未解決事件捜査班). The film is a remake of the Japanese TV drama "Signal" (originally Korean), for which BTS wrote the theme song "Don't Leave Me" in 2018.
The story continues from the drama series "Signal".

'In 2021, a limousine taxi driver causes an accident on a highway and a high-ranking officer dies in the accident. The cold case investigation team, including Kento Saegusa (Kentaro Sakaguchi) and team leader Misaki Sakurai (Michiko Kichise), have doubts about the case.
Meanwhile, in 2009, administrative employees died consecutively in car accidents. The police announce these deaths as accidents. Takeshi Ooyama (Kazuki Kitamura) believes these deaths were not the product of simple accidents. At 11:23 pm, a walkie-talkie switches on and makes a connection between the future and the past. Kento Saegusa and Takeshi Ooyama face a threat from bioterrorism.'
The song "Film Out" marks BTS' first collaboration with Japanese rock band "back number" and Iyori Shimizu.

Like all other BTS' Japanese songs, the reviews are more on the MV, what happens in the video, the aesthetic. The lyrics are most of the times sentimental, melodic and romantic.
So we'll have a quick look at the lyrics of "Film Out" and then a deeper look at what goes on in the MV, stuff I caught the first time I saw it, and after doing some research and talking to a few people, listening and reading theories from other people. All sources will be either at the end of the post, or in links attached in the text.
Hello ARMY! My name is Maria and today I'll bring to you the analysis of the latest Japanese song by BTS.
[Verse 1: Jung Kook & Jimin]
You, in my imagination
Are so vivid, oh-oh
As if you are right there
But I reach out my hand
And you suddenly disappear
In the first verse the lyrical self talks about someone he sees in his imagination vividly, "as if you're right there". Us to believe that someone is always on their mind. He sees the person so well, so realistically, that he reaches out to touch them, but the person "suddenly disappears."
[Chorus: Jung Kook & V]
From all the memories stored in my heart
I gather up the ones of you, link them together
Gazing at them projected across the room
I feel you with every burst of pain
"From all the memories stored in my heart, I gather up the ones of you, link them together", here the lyrical self looks for all the memories that are about that someone he misses and connects them all.
"Gazing at them projected across the room", he takes all these memories and projects them into the air in his room. He misses someone so much that he is always looking for his memories and "holds them in the air", around him, with him.
"I feel you in every burst of pain", here he tells us that every memory he sees, that he feels, hurts. When we love someone very much and that someone leaves our life in some way, it will always hurt to remember that person.
[Verse 2: RM]
Decay too far gone absorbing no light or water
Sealing my wounded heart with a rootless, leafless vow
Two glasses placed side by side, their role
Never fulfilled, ah, just as thеy were
Since you last touchеd them
"Decay too far gone absorbing no light or water", here he talks about his own decomposition, as a metaphor that he can't do the things he used to do because of his sadness, the lack of that person presence.
"Sealing my wounded heart with a rootless, leafless vow", he covers his wound, puts something on top to try to ease the pain a little.
"Two glasses placed side by side, since you last touched them", here he refers to a peaceful life without the person, as if everything had stopped and everyone stopped "fulfilling your role".
[Chorus: Jin & Jung Kook]
From all the memories stored in my heart
I gather up the ones of you, link them together
Gazing at them projected across the room
I feel you with every burst of pain
[Verse 3: SUGA, j-hope & Jung Kook]
Don't have to be right
Just wanted you to stay the way you are
Kind-hearted, always smiling, but
If tears can be measured, it took this long but
I've barely made it by your side (Barely made it)
And found you (Ooh)
"Don't have to be right, Just wanted you to stay the way you are, Kind-hearted, always smiling", here he says that he would like the person to have continued the way he was, good hearted and always smiling, with innocence.
[Chorus: V & Jimin]
From all the memories stored in my heart
I gather up the ones of you, link them together
Gazing at them projected across the room (Ooh, oh, oh, oh, ooh)
I fall asleep with you vivid in my arms
[Post-Chorus: Jin & Jimin]
The words you whisper, the resonance
Wander aimlessly around the room
The fragrance I smell, the warmth I feel
As long as it lasts, as long as it lasts
[Outro: Jin & V]
You, in my imagination
Are so vivid, oh
As if you are right there
But I reach out my hand
And you suddenly disappear
Now let's do a study of the colors used in the MV. At first glance it is noticeable that the choice of colors was not random, the color palette has a very strong meaning in this MV. I'm not a professional in the artistic field but I've always been very interested, and I'm passionate about art in general, and having an aunt who is in the arts so she taught me a lot.
Sometimes it is not necessary to understand or research about colors, artistic movements, to know their meanings, art speaks to us in a deep, sentimental way. We always feel something when we see some color. With that I will show you in general the meaning of some colors to later take you to the MV of "Film Out", and to speak more properly I will use the rockcontent base site, a site of marketing and business management.
"Color Psychology is a study that reveals how the human brain identifies and understands colors in different ways, influencing their emotions, feelings and desires. We can see the performance of colors in advertising, architecture, fashion, design, among others."
In general, the meaning of each color is:

Yellow: wisdom, knowledge, relaxation, joy, happiness, optimism, idealism, imagination, hope, clarity, radiance, summer, dishonesty, cowardice, betrayal, envy, greed, deceit, illness, danger
Orange: mood, energy, balance, heat, enthusiasm, vibrancy, expansion, extravagance, excessive, fiery
Green: chealing, calm, perseverance, tenacity, self-awareness, pride, immutability nature, environment, healthy, good luck, renewal, youth, vigor, spring, generosity, fertility, jealousy, inexperience, envy, immaturity, destruction
Blue: faith, spirituality, contentment, loyalty, peace, tranquility, calm, stability, harmony, unity, trust, truth, conservatism, security, cleanliness, order, sky, water, cold, technology, depression
Purple/Violet: eroticism, royalty, nobility, spirituality, ceremony, mysterious, transformation, wisdom, knowledge, enlightenment, cruelty, arrogance, mourning, power, sensitivity, intimacy
Bronw: materialism, excitement, earth, home, outdoors, reliability, comfort, strength, stability, simplicity

White: yes, protection, love, respect, curtsy, purity, simplicity, cleanliness, peace, humility, precision, innocence, youth, birth, winter, snow, good, sterility, marriage (western cultures), death (eastern cultures), cold, clinical, sterile
Silver: wealth, glamour, allure, difference, natural, smooth, soft, elegant, technological
Gold: preciousness, wealth, extravagance, warmth, opulence, prosperity, greatness
Colors can also be studied taking into account age, flavor and temperature.

If we now look at the color palette found in the MV, we have the following palettes:
Did you notice that now with the scenarios separated by color it is possible to feel something when we see each one of them? And that the color palette, the colors themselves tell a story, help to understand and feel what is happening in the scene.
Let's divide the color palettes into numbers:
- P1 for the first one where we see BTS together and we have shades of brown, beige, white, dots of green and a little bit of gray maybe?!?;
- P2 is the apex of the MV, where everything we see is destroyed and we have warm colors, red, yellow, orange;
- P3 shows an enigmatic air, something like a "dream" that we want to achieve, and we have a lot of blue of various shades, white and the sun that is very important here in this scenario.
P1
Sophistication and seriousness, brown is widely used in interior design and is closely related to nature and safety. In the MV scenes we have the feeling of something serious happening, as if we were following the scene from afar, isolated from what is happening, without being present in the story, like Jin, at the same time outside the scene and inside the scene. This happens a lot in the BTS Universe where we follow the story closer to Jin than to the other boys, as if the feeling of security (intensified by the color palette) is well seen by the scenario, where we see BTS in a room all together, talking, happy, protected.
Jin at the B.U. has always been the character who is responsible for solving problems but who is always watching the story unfold from afar, having that fourth wall breaking effect, a 'Fleabag' vibe of looking at the camera knowing that it's being filmed and talking with the viewer. In "Fake Love" we have this same color palette in a scenario parallel to the second color palette.
Another parallel is when Jin shows knowledge of the viewer.
P2
Warm colors with an air of desperation, aggression, violence, speed, energy. Where we see the apex of the clip. The wormhole in this MV scene is quite confusing, as we see everything break inside the two rooms (which is now empty with only Jin), then we see Jin starts to run. Could it be two parallel universes? Or more than two? Probably. Because we have two rooms that are exactly the same, only opposite, and then we see the scenes of the doors.
Who remembers Monsters, Inc. and the theory of the doors? Each door led to a different place, right? It can even lead to different times. The entire BTS Universe uses and abuses of doors, and it's not random. Even the group's logo refers to a door, and I could stay all day, and make a huge post just showing the use of doors and their meanings in BTS's MVs and visual content.
P3
The entire color palette of the third scenario is based on tranquility, something that brings you security and at the same time an air of mystery, a scenario to be reached after disaster. Something to look forward to, something good (that's why I said the sun was important in this part).
You don't need to have a deep knowledge of colors and art to feel and associate colors with certain types of sensations and feelings when seen in scenes with movements, but I wanted to talk a little about how in this MV the choice of colors was very significant and clearly present in what they wanted to pass on to those who watched.
Now I'm going to try to break down the theory behind the MV a little bit. As I said earlier, BTS uses and abuses of doors in their MVs, and it's not that unusual or absurd because "door" has a meaning and is well used in metaphors and philosophies. If we follow Jung's philosophy that is the most used in the BTS Universe, there is a passage shown in the "Intro: Persona" MV that says:
"The dream is a little hidden door in the deepest and most intimate sanctuary of the soul, which opens to that primordial cosmic night that was soul long before there was a conscious ego and will be soul far beyond what a conscious ego could reach."
And coincidentally this is something crucial for Jin to be able to break the time loop and save all the boys from the tragedies experienced in the BTS Universe, seen in the webtoon "Save Me".
That's why doors are not random and not just for aesthetics, they mean a passage between two worlds, between two situations, a door can mean new opportunities, a new stage in life. During the B.U., the doors meant this passage of boys from adolescence/youth to adulthood. In the scene where we see Jin opening one door and finding several others doors, it could mean all the timelines, the alternate realities he created while trying to save the boys.
The room where the boys are, in which the two are identical but opposite, that the window that connects the two rooms is not possible to see the other side, we can consider that the room where Jin is, is his soul and the hourglass it's the dream. I will explain further. The soul according to Jung is what encompasses everything we are: ego; shadow; conscious and unconscious, all our personas; animus; and with that the Map of the Soul is something extremely precious for the human being, it is the way to find yourself and where it is the most important for the "self", and as seen in the MVs, in the webtoon and in The Notes, for Jin his memories with the boys are his most treasured possessions.
That's why we see them on the other side of the "window" being watched by Jin, and even though "Jin" is in the room with them, as you can see, his face is never shown, as if he wasn't really there.
"You in my imagination
It's so vivid, oh-oh
Like you're right there"
And dreams are considered, by Jung, messages sent by our unconscious, serving as a bridge between conscious and non-conscious processes and maintaining the balance of the mind. That's why when Jin takes the hourglass, making eye contact with Jungkook, everything falls apart, because that balance ends.
There is the breaking of the fourth wall showing that what was unconscious (the boys in the other room living unaware of Jin's presence on the other side) is now conscious about the time loop. JK shows by acknowledging Jin's presence that his memories with the boys are also his most treasured possessions, something we know is personal to him as well as his character in BU, according to The Notes.
With everything breaking apart, his soul collapsing, Jin tries to escape and finds himself on the edge of the abyss behind the door, leading him to an unconscious act, but he decides to return to the room and reconcile with his soul.
In the meantime, we see another scenario, a desert (already treated in several BTS songs, as a representation of the difficulties experienced) with a door eaves, where we see SOPE sitting with their backs to each other representing opposites, the ego and the shadow (their solo songs on the MOTS 7 album). This symbology shows the attempt at reconciliation within the soul (and the color palette mentioned above shows this feeling very well), something that we also see in the performances of "Black Swan" (but with a totally opposite color palette, as it is about something more aggressive, like a fight).
Upon reaching the room again, Jin finds only Tae, who also breaks the fourth wall like JK, looking at Jin and trying to touch him. Tae was always responsible for "waking up" Jin from this time loop, and being the bridge between the conscious and unconscious, he was always in limbo, between the timelines, he was the only one who really knew about Jin's time travel . Tae and Jin have always been opposites in the BTS Universe. But when Tae tries to touch Jin he disappears, does Jin wake up? Or will he travel again?
"But I extend my hand
And you suddenly disappear"
